LPRng and printqd

LPRng is a print system for Linux und Unix operating systems.

Printqd is designed to cooperate with LPRng to control which users are allowed to use which printers and to limit the number of pages printed by users.
Printqd was designed to meet the needs of educational institutions.

The DK tools project page at SourceForge ⟨1⟩ provides further information about printqd.

Print limit / print account

Your print administrator probably did configure limits how many pages your are allowed to print on a group of printers. The limit my be zero (denying access) or unlimit to allow unrestricted access. A numeric value configures a number of pages.
A limit is valid for a given period of time, i.e. semester, trimester or school year.

In addition to the limit (established by faculty leader, school director...) you can have a personal print account, i.e. if you have paid for it. This print account remains intact when the teaching period changes.

Pages from the limit are used if you did not yet reach the limit. The pages used within the limit are counted from 0 upwards.

After reaching the limit you can only print if there is a positive number of pages in your personal print account (if any). The personal print account is decreasing while printing.
