Short: Onsala observatory telescope Author: wonderpop2000@hotmail.com Type: pix/astro Architecture: generic -- This is the 25 m. antenna of the Raaoe space observatory, situated in Onsala, not very far from Gothenburg, Sweden. Built in 1963, the radio telescope is still going strong, run by Chalmers Technical University and used for space research. With a weight of some 100,000 kilogrammes, the antenna is obviously stationary, however and of course partially manoeuvrable. Its dish is not solid but rather shows a network texture so as to facilitate the passage of wind (wind speeds exceeding 13 m/s, though, are problematic). The texture of the antenna's dish allows for work to be carried out in the wavelength range of 4 to 30 cm.
