SGMLC Products

SGMLC Product Installation Instructions

Before installing any of the SGMLC compiler products or sample applications, the SGMLC Core Components must first be installed. If you do not already have the latest version of these (1.2) then you should download them now and install them according to the instructions below.

Note that the same versions of the Core Components and compiler products must be installed. The 32-bit compiler products will not work with the 16-bit version of the Core Components, and vice-versa.

Download the 32-bit version (1.3Mb) of the Core Components (for Windows 95 and NT only)

Download the 16-bit version (934Kb) of the Core Components (for Windows 3.11, 95 and NT).

Each product, including the Core Components, is packaged as a single zipped file, using PKZIP 2.04g

The zipped file should first be unzipped into a temporary directory, using the -d option of pkunzip to retain the subdirectory structure. For example,

    pkunzip -d common.zip c:\temp

After unzipping the file, in Windows run the setup.exe file created in the temporary directory.

When installing the Core Components, you will be asked for the directory into which you wish to install them. For all other products you will not be prompted, and the setup program will install all products under the directory you specified when installing the Core Components.

When the setup program has completed, delete the unzipped files from the temporary directory. If you unzip one product zip file into a directory which still has the files created from unzipping either another product or the Core Components, make sure that you choose to overwrite existing files when unzipping. This is necessary because each zipped file contains some files which share common names but have different content.

After installing a product, documentation is available via the Help menu. Menu item, dialog box, and error message context-sensitive help is available by pressing the F1 key.

SGMLC-Lite

A free SGMLC compiler and runtime compiled rules file processor. This product may be used for creating Windows-based SGML conversion applications. It cannot create viewer applications, but any compiled rules files (except those produced by evaluation versions of products), even those containing viewer applications created by SGMLC-View, can be run with this product. All of the free applications available from this site will run with this product.

SGMLC-Lite may be freely redistributed and used as a runtime processor for pre-written compiled rules files, meaning that end-users no longer have to purchase expensive licences simply to run conversion programs or viewer applications written for them.

As with all SGMLC products, there are no runtime royalties or any other charges on any applications created with this product.

BEFORE DOWNLOADING, please read the installation instructions carefully. Specifically, please note the requirement that the SGMLC Core Components must first be installed before any of the products.

Download the 32-bit version (934Kb) of SGMLC-Lite (for Windows 95 and NT only).

Download the 16-bit version (599Kb) of SGMLC-Lite (for Windows 3.11, 95 and NT).

SGMLC-Pro

This product is a commercial, enhanced version of SGMLC-Lite. It includes several additional features, such as :

As with all SGMLC products, there are no runtime royalties or any other charges on any applications created with this product.

Both the 16-bit (Windows 3.11, 95 and NT) and 32-bit (Windows 95 and NT) versions of this product are available now.

Price : Single licence - GBP 800. Multiple licences by arrangement.

SGMLC-ADE

A comprehensive interactive SGMLC Application Development Environment. As well as all the functionality of the SGMLC-Pro product, this product includes an integrated rules file editor with extensive debugging facilities. These include:

This is an invaluable tool for creating and debugging complex SGML processing aplications written in SGMLC and there is currently no other product on the market with such functionality.

As with all SGMLC products, there are no runtime royalties or any other charges on any applications created with this product.

Both the 16-bit (Windows 3.11, 95 and NT) and 32-bit (Windows 95 and NT) versions of this product are available now.

Price : Single licence - GBP 1500. Multiple licences by arrangement.

SGMLC-View

In addition to all the features of SGMLC-ADE, this product also includes extensive support for creating complex Windows-based SGML viewer applications.

The SGMLC-View compiler contains a complete set of functions for creating interactive SGML browser applications. A single or multiple output documents can be created, and the default output stream assigned to any document. This mechanism allows for the creation of either one linear output document or of multiply-linked frame-based documents.

Formatted output is achieved by sending markup codes embedded in the output stream. The markup used is know as IML (for Internal Markup Language), and has been designed to support both screen-based and paper-based output. It has powerful in-built support for presenting complex tables. Mathematics are supported by an internal implementation of the TeX maths markup scheme using TrueType fonts, allowing complex mathematical equations to be presented. Inline graphics are supported via any external notation handlers which can create a placeable metafile (such as the import filters which come with MS Word). Windows bitmaps are supported natively.

The usual windows-based paragraph and character formatting characteristics are supported. There are also IML codes for the fine control of horizontal and vertical kerning, and for placing diacritical marks over arbitrary characters. The characters defined in the ISO public entity sets are displayed by placing the IML codes to access the characters in the replacement text string in the entity definition files. Mappings for the characters available in the common TrueType fonts are provided with the SGMLC Core Components.

Hotspots may be created in the output document, and hotspot handling is definable by the user via the HotSpot event. Hotspots may be used, for example, to call a sub-document window (a "popup"), to initiate a jump to a point in the same or another document, or to call an external program to process some data such as a graphic or other foreign notation.

Viewer features supported include:

As with all SGMLC products, there are no runtime royalties or any other charges on any applications created with this product.

Both the 16-bit (Windows 3.11, 95 and NT) and 32-bit (Windows 95 and NT) versions of this product are available now.

An evaluation version of SGMLC-View is also available for download now. Use it to discover the powerful functionality of SGMLC-View

Price : Single licence - GBP 3500. Multiple licences by arrangement.

SGMLC-View Evaluation Version

The evaluation version of SGMLC-View allows you to experiment with all the powerful features of the product. Try creating your own viewer or conversion applications, and debug them in the comprehensive Application Development Environment. Or step through some of the sample applications to see how they work.

The evaluation version is, inevitably, restricted in several ways, though none of these should interfere unduly with your evaluation. The restrictions are :

BEFORE DOWNLOADING, please read the installation instructions carefully. Specifically, please note the requirement that the SGMLC Core Components must first be installed before any of the products.

Download the 32-bit version (938Kb) of the SGMLC-View Evaluation Version (for Windows 95 and NT only).

Download the 16-bit version (600Kb) of the SGMLC-View Evaluation Version (for Windows 3.11, 95 and NT).
