All Rights Reserved. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.0 Software Requirements Windows NT * Windows NT 3.5 or 3.51 Windows '95 * Windows '95 1.0 2.0 Hardware Requirements To run WorldView 0.9g for Windows you should have at least: * 486/50 processor * 8 mb memory * 8, 16 or 24 bit display driver and graphics card 3.0 Installation 3.1 Win32 Installation for Windows NT and Windows '95 The WorldView 0.9g Pre-Beta release for Win32 systems has a Windows setup program. The setup program is in a self-extracting zip archive. All you have to do is execute the program wrldw32.exe from the File Manager or use the Windows Program Manager commands File Run. Step 1: Copy the self extracting archive file "wrldvw32.exe" to a temporary directory. Step 2: From the File Manager double click on the file "wrldvw32.exe" or from the Program Manager Select File Run and enter drive:\tempdir\wlrdvw32.exe. Step 3: From the File Manager double click on the file "\tempdir\install.exe" or from the Program Manager select File Run and enter drive:\tempdir\install.exe Step 4: The WorldView setup program requires three basic inputs. First, the installation directory (default is c:\wrldview); second, whether you would like to backup files that will be replaced (only applicable for re-installations); and whether you would like to create a program group for Worldview. Microsoft's setup program will be invoked by Intervista's setup program. Please follow all applicable instructions. We recommend using Netscape for Windows Version 1.1N or 1.2N. WorldView can remotely control the Netscape Navigator (tm) client. This means that you can click on a hotspot in WorldView and the URL will be sent to and displayed in Netscape. Subsequently, you can also click on a hyperlink in Netscape that is a .wrl fileand the file will be sent to and displayed in WorldView. The WorldView initialization file (drive:\windowsDir\wrldview.ini) is pre-configured to run with Netscape. If you have NOT configured WorldView as a helper application for Netscape, there is no additional configuration required. If you are already using WorldView with Netscape 1.1N or 1.2N, you do NOT need to configure WorldView as a "helper" application. If you have configured WorldView as a helper application for Netscape 1.1N (16 or 32-bit version) or 1.2N (16-bit version), the following steps should be followed to take advantage of the WorldView remote control capabilities: 1. Check your wrldview.ini file and ensure that the entry for "browser=" is pointing to either Netscape 1.1N or 1.2N. 2. If you are running Netscape 1.1N, and if you previously configured WorldView as a "helper application", you need to remove this support from the netscape.ini file. An example entry is as follows: [Viewers] x-world/x-vrml=c:\wrldview\wrldview.exe Remove this entry from your netscape.ini file and save the file. Be sure to restart netscape for the changes to go into effect. If you have configured WorldView as a helper application for Netscape 1.2N (32-bit version), the following steps should be followed to take advantage of the WorldView remote control capabilities: 1. Check your wrldview.ini file and ensure that the entry for "browser=" is pointing to Netscape 1.2N. 2. If you previously configured WorldView as a helper application, you will need to revmove this support from the system registery as follows: -> load the program: regedt32.exe -> select [HKEY_CURRENT_USER] group -> Select Software -> Select Netscape -> Select Netscape Navigator -> Select Viewers -> Select entry: x-world/x-vrml:REG:SZ: -> Select the EDIT menu and pick the DELETE option -> Exit the registry WorldView will also work with Enhanced Mosaic 2.0 from Spyglass and will require modifications to your wrldview.ini file. It will need to be configured as a "helper" application. We are currently working with all Spyglass-enabled browser vendors to ensure that WorldView is compatible with this messaging implementation. This will be available in our official beta release. Any other browser should be able to start WorldView, but they have not been tested. Configuring Enhanced Mosaic 2.0 from Spyglass Step 1: Select the "Edit/Helpers" menu item. Step 2: Select the "Add" button in the Helpers dialog box. Step 3: In the Configure File Type dialog enter: For Description: VRML Documents For MIME type: x-world/x-vrml For Suffixes: .wrl For Encoding: Text For Helper App: \wrldview %s NOTE: To run WorldView, you must be in 8, 16 or 24 bit color mode. 5.0 Help Files Not available in this release. 6.0 Sample Worlds Example VRML worlds are provided in the drive:\installDir\worlds\ directory. They may be loaded directly into WorldView or through your Web browser. All models have been certified to be VRML 1.0 compliant. 7.0 How to Navigate WorldView Navigation Modes: Fly Moves you around the world. Inspect Allows you to move and tilt the 3D model. Move Forward Fly Mode: Will move the model closer to you. Inspect Mode: Will move the model away from you. Move Backward Fly Mode: Will move the model away from you. Inspect Mode: Will move the model closer to you. Look Left Fly Mode: Will move the model to the right. Inspect Mode: Will tilt the top of the model to the right. Alt or Ctl keys act as accelerators to simulate spinning. Look Right Fly Mode: Will move the model to the left. Inspect Mode: Will tilt the top of the model to the left. Alt or Ctl keys act as accelerators to simulate spinning. Tilt Left Fly Mode: Will tilt your viewpoint to the right. Inspect Mode: Will tilt the top of the model to the left. Alt or Ctl keys act as accelerators to simulate spinning. Tilt Right Fly Mode: Will tilt your viewpoint to the left. Inspect Mode: Will tilt the top of the model to the right. Alt or Ctl keys act as accelerators to simulate spinning. Look Up Fly Mode: Will tilt the viewpoint up. Inspect Mode: Will tilt the top of the model towards you. Look Down Fly Mode: Will tilt the viewpoint down. Inspect Mode: Will tilt the top of the model away from you. Move Up Fly Mode: Moves you up or gives the appearance of moving the world down. Inspect Mode: Moves the model up. Move Down Fly Mode: Moves you down or gives the appearance of moving you up. Inspect Mode: Moves the model down. Move Left Fly Mode: Will move your camera view to the left. Inspect Mode: Moves the model to the left. Move Right Fly Mode: Will move your camera view to the right. Inspect Mode: Moves the model to the right. "+" Crosshair (optional) Activated by the left mouse down. Above '+' means move forward, below move back. Left of '+' means rotate left, right of '+' means rotate right. Shift key w/mouse does panning. Control key w/mouse does pitch and roll. Restore: Takes you back to the first view you had when you started viewing the current world. 8.0 VRML Extensions Intervista believes in the open standards process and plans on only supporting the VRML specification. However, because most of the models that have been created are not strict VRML, we have decided to support the following extensions which appear in several models on the net. We are also going to suggest that these extensions be placed in the VRML 1.1 specification. farDistance field in PerspectiveCamera node nearDistance field in PerspectiveCamera node 9.0 New Features in this Release 1. WorldView recognizes long filenames but not filenames containg a "space" character. 13.0 Support This is an unsupported Pre-Beta version of WorldView; no official support is offered, but we would like to know about any problems you might have or suggestions for future releases. Stay tuned for more details. 14.0 Installation Test and Sample Worlds Example VRML worlds are provided in the installDir/worlds directory. They may be loaded directly into WorldView or through your Web browser. All models have been certified to be VRML 1.0 compliant. If you want to network test some simple worlds with hyperlinks, try: http://www.vrml.com/worlds/test/cube.wrl.
