SPRY has ported TI- RPC to comply with Microsoft's Windows Open Systems Architecture (WOSA) specification called WinSock. SPRY's TI-RPC library is included with their Windows TCP/IP package, AIR for Windows or it is available separately for corporate site licensing. With SPRY's TI-RPC library for WinSock, any TCP/IP vendor supporting WinSock will be able to access UNIX host applications that use the TI-RPC library. This will be a vital tool for developers writing TI-RPC based distributed applications. In addition, with SPRY having the TI-RPC library written to the WinSock interface, it shows their commitment to the forthcoming industry standard as well as to their customers. "The enterprise wide network requires interoperability at all levels, including distributed applications," said John Kellum, director of product marketing for SunSoft. "SPRY's implementation of the TI-RPC library allows PCs running TI-RPC based client-server applications the ability to interoperate with Solaris hosts using the TCP/IP transport." "As the leading developer of client-server help desk applications, we need TI-RPCs on all the popular PC networking stacks," said Larry Garlick, president of Remedy Corporation. "SPRY's TI-RPC library gives us WinSock compatibility, allowing many more Windows users to take advantage of our Action Request System." In an effort to simplify networking in a Windows environment, SPRY hopes to establish an industry trend by making their TI-RPC library available for corporate site licensing. Application developers will be able to purchase SPRY's TI-RPCs on a one-time fee basis without having to pay annual royalties. SPRY's AIR for Windows is a Windows TCP/IP package that includes a fully MS Windows - compatible VT220 terminal emulator, telnet, line printer redirector (lpr), file transfer protocol (ftp), a Windows implementation of Internet Mail (AIRMAIL), MS WinSock support and now the inclusion of TI-RPC support for the WinSock API Standard. NFS and TN3270 are add-on options. SPRY, Incorporated, founded in 1987, specializes in networking the desktop by developing software products allowing PCs to run multiple protocols such as IPX, TCP/IP, NetBEUI, VINES IP, DECnet and XNS concurrently.
