The Short Explanation:
Here are 200 cartoons that I drew between 1987 and 1989. Some are funny, some are just weird, and some are of historical interest (in the most mundane way) only. I originally was going to delete these cartoons after February 17, but since a few of the mirror sites wanted to keep them around, it doesn't make much sense to delete them on MetaLab. If you've never visited these pages before, you may want to check out some of the cartoons in the "real" Doctor Fun archive, or visit the rest of MetaLab; otherwise go right to Doctor Fun's Grab Bag.
Warning Warning - Some, but not all, of these cartoons contain bad words, potty jokes, and potentially offensive material. No hard core stuff, though.
The Long Explanation:
When I first started Doctor Fun, it was unclear whether I was going
to use it as a sort of "greatest hits" for old cartoons I had drawn, but
never got into print (which would be
most of the cartoons I've drawn) or work from all new material as I went
along. After Doctor Fun became a going concern, it seemed a lot more fun and interesting to write new material, so, with a
couple exceptions, that's what I've done.
I get a lot of e-mail from people who tell me they've followed the
cartoon since it started. This is very satisfying, and has discouraged
me from taking any sort of break (except when my hard drive crashed and
I lost all my new cartoons awhile ago - ha-ha.) Now that I've decided I really
need to take a little time off, I feel that I ought to do something
special, so I've decided to look back into the pre-Doctor Fun days, and
dig
out some material for your amusement.
If the dates I could find on these cartoons are correct, they were all drawn in
either 1987 or 1989. I'm sure I was drawing cartoons in 1988, too, but
they must be in another folder somewhere. Some of these cartoons would
hold up perfectly well today as Doctor Funs. Others would not, either
because they don't really make any sense anymore, are too stupid, or are
just somehow not Doctor Fun cartoons. My only criteria for picking out
cartoons for this collection are that they still somehow grabbed my
interest, even if they were offensive, childish, obscure, badly drawn,
or more strange than funny.
So enjoy, or be offended, or be bored. There are no captions here -
just links to files. Most of the bathroom humor and less tasteful stuff
seems to be towards the top of the list - I'm not sure why; it just came
out that way.
These cartoons were all drawn in pen and ink, and shaded with some
sort of watercolor wash, or magic marker. With a couple exceptions,
the cartoons are all in black and white. I didn't do much color work until
right before I started Doctor Fun. The files themselves are
mostly greyscale JPEGs, 640 x 480 pixels, ranging in size from 50 to
80K. I've done very minimal editing on these scans; just cleaned them
up and added text for the caption, if it was too faint to scan on the
original.

As always, thanks for reading Doctor Fun.
