ASWedit & asWedit versions 3.0 are coming soon!

The new versions will be released in October/November 1996 (asWedit - second half of October, ASWedit - beginning of November).

They will include many improvements and additions, including the following:

HTML features

• support for two new extended DTD's:
  1. current practice ("base") - HTML 3.2 extended with some new elements and attributes (mainly Netscape Navigator 3.0 additions)
  2. experimental - the above "base" DTD + full table model as in RFC 1942 + bigger set of common attributes (mainly from I18N)
• new, 10 times faster, previewing algorithm for Netscape Navigator
• new very fast parser; we admit: we have made a breakthrough - the parser is up to 100 times faster on big documents compared with the 2.5 version!
  (this however, put our launch schedule back by a few days; we are absolutely sure it was worth it -- so please be patient)
• option to use the old, but now optimized, parser (8 times faster on big documents compared with the 2.5 original version, but still much slower than our new parser)
• auto insert of image width and height (GIF, JPEG & PNG)
• separate target command
• command to replace the current container element with another one (e.g. H1 --> H2)
• new dialog for selecting and customizing of colors
• more of typical HTML errors corrected by the program
• auto correction of invalid HTML documents
• commands for finding and selecting the parent and child SGML elements (traversing of HTML hierarchy works best with the new parser)
• display of current context (this only works with the new parser)
• automatic hex-encoding of special characters when typed in the URL's boxes (e.g. space --> %20)
• new default set of colors for HTML elements (now the elements are colored, not their background)
• the graphical options menus are now available also in the "free" version

General features

• shorter startup time (40% faster)
• nice insensitive icons in toolbars
• new implementation of bubble help that works even for insensitive elements
• auto positioning of dialogs under the pointer (less mouse movements)
• hyperlinks in the help system are now in color
• more keyboard shortcuts (for keyboard fans)
• the editor and status line popup menus are now user definable (for mouse fans)
